Amazon title character limit
The short answer: 200 characters for most Amazon categories, with some categories capped lower — commonly 80. The long answer is that the limit is applied per category, and an over-limit title gets truncated in search results rather than rejected outright, which is why people miss it.
Limits by marketplace
| Marketplace | Typical title limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon US / UK / DE | 200 characters | Some categories are stricter (80 is common). Check your category's style guide in Seller Central. |
| TikTok Shop | 255 characters | Shorter recommended; the feed truncates visually far earlier. |
| Other marketplaces | Varies (often 80–150) | Assume the stricter number until you confirm. |
Limits change. The number that matters is the one shown in your Seller Central category style guide — verify before a bulk upload.

How to shorten without losing the keyword
Most over-limit titles are over because of adjectives, not keywords. Three edits recover 30–60 characters without touching the search terms.
1. Delete every adjective that is not a fact
High Quality Premium Durable Stainless Steel Kitchen Knife → Stainless Steel Kitchen Knife, 8 in. "High quality", "premium", and "durable" are unverifiable; "8 in" is a specification a buyer can use.
2. Move the pack count into parentheses
Set of 12 Pieces Silicone Utensils → Silicone Utensils (12-Piece Set). Same information, 9 characters shorter, and it reads better on mobile.
3. Cut the repeated noun, keep the variants
Silicone Spatula Silicone Spoon Silicone Whisk → Silicone Utensils — Spatula, Spoon, Whisk. One "silicone" carries the keyword; the list carries the long tail.
After shortening, the first 80 characters matter most: mobile search truncates around there. Put the brand, the core noun, and one specification inside that window.
Check the whole listing, not just the length
Length is one of eight checks. The free audit also scans 63 restricted terms, ALL CAPS runs, keyword position, repetition, and missing size or pack count.
FAQ
What happens if my title is over the limit?
It is typically truncated in search and category pages, and may be flagged in listing quality. It is rarely rejected at upload, which is why it goes unnoticed.
Does the limit count spaces?
Yes. Every character counts, including spaces and punctuation.
Is a longer title better for SEO?
Only up to the point of readability. Beyond roughly 120–150 characters the marginal keyword gain is small and the truncation risk is high.
